At PrimarySite, your school website is absolutely our priority. However, from July 2019, the same cannot be said for Google. Please be reassured that not every school website will be affected.

So, how do you know if your school website is responsive, and more importantly if these changes will affect you?

Below is a useful link to Google's own mobile-friendly test tool. Simply copy and paste your website address into the tool, and you will get a pass or fail result.

What is ‘responsive’ and how does this affect my school website?

The way in which we view websites in the last 5 or 6 years has changed. We no longer solely rely on traditional desktops for internet searches; recent trends show that mobile devices and tablets now lead the way in how we look for something online.

A responsive website reflects this and optimises the viewing screen for the device that used. In short, a responsive design ensures that your school website looks great on every device and every screen size.

  • At PrimarySite, we know that typically 70% of the parents with young people attending your school will try and view your website from a mobile phone. It is therefore essential to place elements like your noticeboard, lunch menu, and contact links not only in a prominent place but so they can be seen by mobile phone users.
  • If your current school website is not responsive, prospective parents are going to struggle to find you online. From July 2019, your search position may be affected based on the way Google will rank websites. Simply by redesigning your school website to a responsive website, this could change overnight.
  • School Inspectors will at your website before they call you to make an appointment to visit you. At PrimarySite, we want your website to be easy for the Inspectors to find – especially as they may also be using a mobile device. One way to do this is to ensure that your website is responsive and appears early in any Google search.

What do I need to do?

If your website is not currently responsive, this is where we at PrimarySite can help, after all, we really want your website to be the best school website it can be.

Contact us before July 2019, and we will redesign your website to ensure that it is a responsive site for you in time for the new term starting in September 2019.
